“Baptism is an important step in the life of any believer. As your church, we would love to help you take this step on your faith journey.”

Why Should I be Baptized?
Jesus asked His followers to be baptized as an outward symbol of an inward commitment. This action puts the world on notice that a person is leaving their old life behind and embracing the life God has for them.

Does Salvation Come through Baptism?
The act of going into the water is not our salvation. Jesus made a way to eternal life for us through His death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. If one of His requests is for us to be baptized, why would we not want to follow Jesus in this way?
What if I was Previously Baptized?
Ephesians 4:5 states that there is “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.”
We recognize that many other Christian traditions celebrate baptisms. We honour and celebrate what God has done through His grace. If you have been previously baptized and are questioning the need to be re-baptized, we would like to invite you to have a conversation with us. Contact Pastor Matthew Maxwell via email for next steps.

What Age is Appropriate for Baptism?
Baptism has nothing to do with age and everything to do with a person’s spiritual condition. However, a person needs to fully understand that baptism is a public proclamation and celebration of the inward decision they have made to be a Christ follower. It has been the practice here at Journey to invite children to consider being baptized when they can articulate, on their own, their decision to follow Jesus.
For children who have not yet reached that stage, we invite parents to present their children to Jesus in dedication that they will raise their child(ren) in the Christian faith, modelling for them and teaching them what it looks like and means to follow Jesus.
Here are some questions to ask your children as they consider baptism:
1. Why is Baptism important to you?
2. What did Jesus do for us/you?
3. What happens when you believe in Jesus?
4. When did you accept Jesus as your Saviour?
5. What does having God in your life mean to you?
6. Who has helped you grow in your faith?
7. How does being a Christ follower make you a part of His story?

Interested in having your child dedicated in an upcoming service? For upcoming dates or to register your child, please contact Pastor Luke Budreau.
“Child Dedication is when you commit to be the primary influence, with the help of your church family, to teach your child to follow Christ. We'd love to have your child dedicated at Journey!”

How Can I Be Baptized at Journey Church?
We are really happy that you are considering being baptized! Baptism is an outward recognition of a decision that you have already made to be a follower of Jesus. We are here to help answer any questions, and help you to celebrate this milestone in your life!
The first step is to contact Pastor Matthew Maxwell. Together you will talk about the meaning of baptism. You will prepare a short version of your faith journey, and think of someone you’d like to pray for you on Baptism Sunday. (Don’t worry, public speaking is not a requirement to be baptized; you can have someone else read your story if you like.) If you have special needs, physical challenges, or any concerns, just let us know.
“Our Baptism Team will help with the logistics on Baptism Sunday. They will help you to know where to be, and how to prepare so that you can relax and enjoy the day. It's all a celebration and we think you will enjoy it!”
